Autumn 2022 | A Letter from Our President

It's Been a Busy Year!

Dear Friends,

We are thrilled that the Methuen Museum of History is up and running and in full swing since March of this year! Activities at the Museum and Historical Society events throughout Methuen took place throughout the year.

Lecture series have been conducted at Nevins Manor, the Methuen Senior Center, Methuen Housing Authority and The Woods at Merrimack. Our Founding Families event on June 18th was a great success as visitors learned about many Methuen families that played important roles in the history of our city. We conducted a series of Neighborhood Talks at the Nevins Library where residents came to reminisce and exchange thoughts about their old neighborhoods. Our annual Fourth of July reading of the Declaration of Independence at Meetinghouse Hill Cemetery was well attended this year--and the weather cooperated too! We announced the lucky winner of our annual raffle at the event as well.

On June 21, 2022 a commemorative plaque highlighting the visit of General Marquis de Lafayette’s visit to Methuen was installed on the grounds of the Police station on Hampshire Street. This was the culmination of three years of work by our Vice President and Historian, Joe Bella.

This year we have added donations of Searles family documents to our Museum inventory. In addition, we have obtained a grant for grave markers for our Meeting House Hill Cemetery project and an additional grant for the beginning of an archival project for our documents.

Renew or become a new member by October 28 and you could win two tickets to a performance of the New Hampshire Philharmonic Orchestra. None of these projects could have been completed without your generous support as we solicit your yearly membership contributions for the 2023 year. As an added incentive this year, we'll be raffling off two tickets to a performance of the New Hampshire Philharmonic Orchestra. You'll be entered for a chance to win if you make your dues payment by October 28th. Lifetime members will be entered as well.
